Buying electricity should not mean standing in a queue or looking for a vendor at night. If you have a prepaid meter, you can buy a token online in a few minutes.

What you need

• Your meter number (printed on the meter or your last receipt).
• Your distribution company (DisCo), for example the one that serves your area.
• The meter type: prepaid.
• The amount you want to pay.

Steps

1. Choose your electricity provider.
2. Enter your meter number and verify the name on it.
3. Enter the amount and confirm.
4. Receive your token and enter it into your meter.

Tips that save you stress

• Double-check the meter number. A wrong digit can send the token to someone else's meter.
• Keep the token. Save the message or the receipt in case you need to enter it again.
• Expect a small minimum. Providers set a minimum purchase amount.
• Charges may apply. Some of what you pay may be a service charge or tax, which is why the units you receive can look lower than the naira you spent.

If your token does not arrive

Do not buy again straight away. Check your transaction history first. If the status is pending, wait a few minutes; if it failed, the money should return to your wallet. If neither is true, contact support with your reference number.
